Photos of Cloud's Shadows Taken From Space

Alexander Gerst, one of the six astronauts currently on board the International Space Station, has taken a series of stunning photographs documenting the long shadows created be dense cloud formations. These shadows sometimes stretch for thousands of miles across the Earth's surface and, because they're so huge, can't normally been seen. Gerst, who is working as a geophysicist, arrived on the space station in June and spends much of his free time photographing the world beneath him through a small window, sharing them on his Flickr.
